My mission is not confined to cancer patients/ survivors/ caretakers but it is true that I often find myself in that population – whether through a chance encounter on the street or in email correspondence with people around the world, or through a friend who has a loved one in need of emotional support. One area that I have felt compelled to particularly address is hair loss. While losing one’s hair may seem like a minor side effect to some, many women - and men - identify with their hair and are scared and saddened by the loss of it. My answer to finding myself bald was to engage in what I called "scarf therapy". It was a small act of creativity and control that I could take pleasure in rather than focusing on feelings of worry, doubt, and insecurity. Below are a series of videos that I created in 2007 to help women with the challenge of hair loss during chemotherapy and the opportunity for playful scarf therapy. Please share them with anyone who may need a little extra love and support.
